Capacitor Discharge Welding System
The capacitor discharge welding system was designed to couple small tungsten carbide inserts to large oil drilling tools, as part of an innovative application process.
The control aspects of the welding system are based upon CMOS logic modules controlling high energy power devices. CMOS control was originally chosen due to embedded-processor control being rare when the original system was designed. However, over the various revisions of the system, CMOS logic control has remained due to its stability in harsh environments, and providing all of the features required for the system.
The system has a high discharge current, with a fast recharge rate and controllable energy settings. To achieve these results custom designed magnetic components are included in the equipment. The user can control the energy discharge to suit the welding application, with a maximum discharge current of 10,000 Amps being available!
The welding system is supplied to our customer, who then integrates it with the rest of his package, and licences the system world-wide. The capacitor discharge welding system has become the first choice for down hole tool maintenance with leading oil service companies across the world.
