The hardware design is fully scalable from as few as 5 up to 1000 dwellings per control system. Up to 4 full duplex speech paths between doors, residents and Concierge operator are available. Multiple control systems can easily be linked together to provide even larger solutions. System wiring is very much simplified by the use of advanced networking technology.

All resident information is maintained in an active database. Any call to or from a dwelling instantly displays to the operator all known data for the residents in that dwelling (age, medical history, vehicle registration number, known associates etc). A video link can be set up to the door to enable the operator to visually identify callers.

The software controls access to the building, routing door calls to either the Concierge on duty, or direct to the requested resident. Out of hours calls can be redirected to a caretaker. Residents can set their handset for privacy (reducing problems caused by nuisance callers) and redirect their calls to an alternate location (calls redirected to a central meeting area will be anounced on a scrolling message display).

The entire system has constant fault monitoring, any problems are reported to the operator in charge, and logged for later inspection by visiting engineers. An engineer can log into the system at any node on the network using a laptop or handheld computer, and have full technical access to the entire installation.
